from November 10th 2012 to January 26th 2013
The galerie laurent mueller is proud to present the first solo exhibition in France by the korean artist Jeongmoon Choi. after a successful first installation of thread stretched in space during the gallery inauguration together with Laurence De Leersnyder in October 2010, Jeongmoon Choi has devised a new installation of thread under black lights in order to alter a part of the space, while she will also be showing a new sculpture and video, as well as works on canvas and on paper.
Jeongmoon Choi works with thread and traces this three-dimensional line directly into volume to create illusions of perspective. The thread is coloured and used to outline or redefine the architecture of the spaces the artist invests. Drawing directly into space with her hand, the artist addresses questions about our environment, as well as about aspects of lodging and the role of nature in our urban spaces.
The drawings become project or even projection of an imaginary construction that takes form in its environment starting from a line, a thread, which represents the chronological decisions of a progression in space. The transition from a plane to a volume is just as important as the comparison between interior space for living and exterior space for living.
Jeongmoon Choi, born 1966 in Seoul, lives and works in Berlin.
She holds a diploma from the Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Kassel and a Master of Fine Arts from the Sung-Shin university in Seoul. She has had several solo and group exhibitions over the past ten years. Lately, she has inaugurated the open-air installation lines up .a recollection, in Berlin, as well as her solo exhibition Drawing in Space, Galerie Weisser Elefant, Berlin. In 2011 she participated in the joint group exhibitions Arákhnê, galerie laurent mueller, Paris and Nach Strich und Faden, The Drawing Lab, Berlin, as well as in the Art Salon - 9th Art Stays at Ptuj in Slovenia.
